Above | Blood Diamond

Africa has had a devastating history of blood diamond wars. Blood diamond refers to a diamond mined in a war zone and then sold to finance an invading army’s war efforts, usually in Africa where more than two-thirds of the worlds diamonds are extracted. This site specific social / political word play was painted on the exterior wall of Johannesburg’s largest diamond trader Jewel City. Read more on Vimeo.

Danish Tattooing.

In this video author Jon Nordstrøn brings his book “Danish Tattooing” to life by visiting Copenhagen’s most famous tattoo shops, telling stories along the way about the artists who made the subculture so significant there. From homemade tattoo guns to the influence of psychedelics on more recent styles, Nordstrøn’s colorful history is a must for anyone interested in the origins of the artform. (via Dustin Kemper)

The Sartorialist | A Visual Life.

An inspiring piece about Scott Schuman’s Sartorialist. Leading a visual life, doing what you love, and “letting yourself fall in love a little bit everyday.”

Tünr

Tünr | Fine Tune Your Feet.
My good friend Jerrod Modica runs his own shop, T2AP based right outside of Philly. He recently launched his new brand Tünr, a dope line of laces and socks to go with your favorite sneakers. Right now Tünr offers 10 styles of socks and 10 styles of laces. The laces come in multiple designs, lengths, widths — plastic and metal aglets — and they coordinate with the socks. Part of the collection will also be collaborative, the first of which is with Dee & Ricky, with many more efforts in the works.

Find’em near you
, they’re well crafted and super-comfy.

Living Proof

Picked up this dope little publication in Old City a few weeks ago and wanted to share. This is issue 3, but I’ve never seen it around town before. Published by 2 One 5, this issue features: Ron English, Cope2, Stash, Greg Lamarche, Ellen Stagg, Kevin Lyons, House Industries, and more. Living Proof seems reccession proof, taking no short cuts on print quality, and even throwing in a little spot UV on the cover. I dig it.

wejetset | City Notes • New York

Just got a copy of wejetset’s, City Notes • New York. Cool little publication that’s part interview and part travel guide. City Notes takes its readers on a humble tour of a metropolis through the eyes of a creative professional. I check in on wejetset quite often and they are always at the forefront of travel-focused material and culture, so when they put out a publication like this, pick it up and take heed. You can request a free copy here.

Elms Lesters Painting Rooms | The Book

Gavin over at CR Blog just did a nice review/interview of designer Iain Cadby’s incredible book designs, including his latest: The Elms Lesters Painting Rooms. -Limited to just 1,000 copies, it’s a lavish affair: it comes packaged in a white, individually numbered screenprinted box. Removal of the dustjacket reveals an irridescent hardback cover, blind embossed, with iconography pertaining to the gallery and its artists. Within the book, the chronological cataloguing of various events is split into sections by smaller pages which serve to make the chapter divisions more evident. Interviews with the various artists also sit on smaller pages within the book, employing different stocks and coloured inks.- Iain has also designed books for the likes of Ron English, José Parla, DELTA, WK Interact, and more. Thanks to Jerrod for the heads up.
